About Katie

Hi, I’m Katie, a qualified primary school teacher, who took the time off to travel the world after two years in the classroom.

Adventure Diaries is a result of my dream to travel and to see as much of The World as I am fortunate enough to have explored. I like to think of this as more than just a blog and more of a journal of discoveries and adventures.

While university days and teaching holidays allowed me glimpses of far away lands, those short lived trips merely intensified the travel bug in me. I needed to indulge myself in the beauty and enormity of our World, and now you’re invited to take a virtual look through Adventure Diaries.

Through my journey journal, I share the sights, sounds, and stories that filled my days over land and sea. It’s not just a case of ticking boxes or capturing picture postcard sunsets but more about experiencing various cultures and learning something new with every mile that I travelled. Because as much as this is my dream, it’s also about passing on my experiences to like minded adventurers.

How Do I Get Out Of My Comfort Zone? My Teaching Hiatus

Making the leap from the classroom out into the big wide world wasn’t a decision I took lightly. But after a couple of years in school, I realised it was time to “take the plunge” and go for it! My dreams just got bigger and I just felt if I don’t do it now, I might never get a better opportunity to fulfil them. I knew there was more out there for me to explore and experience first hand. My classroom had been a space of discovery and growth, but the call of the unknown was irresistible.

You’re going to find out about how I transitioned from a structured school year to uncharted adventures. I’ve always believed that the best education doesn’t only come from textbooks but from the stories we gather, the cultures we immerse ourselves in, and the people we meet along the way.

Imagine this. One day, I’m planning lessons on world geography, and the next, I’m plotting my own route across this amazing planet. This isn’t just about switching jobs, it’s about trading my view of the playground for a panorama of the world. It’s about taking the curiosity that I instilled in my students and applying it to my personal journey.

In my opinion, the beautiful thing about teaching is that it’s a two-way street. I’ve taught children about the world, and now the world is teaching me, offering lessons that I couldn’t get anywhere else. Lessons that I’ll bring back into the classroom, enriched with personal experience and a global context.

The decision to travel wasn’t made lightly. It took courage to step out of the security of a regular income and into the unpredictability of the road ahead, but I know it was a decision made with a heart full of wanderlust and a spirit keen to learn and grow.

Join Me on This Adventure

So, this is it, the starting line of an extraordinary journey that beckons us to explore. Instead of scribbling in a journal that would sit on a shelf, gathering dust until I’m home, I chose to bring you along with me through my blog, Adventure Diaries. I want to create something that not only serves as a personal memoir but also invites you to be part of this adventure, every step of the way.

I’ll admit, the tech side of blogging was completely foreign to me but I’m determined to master it. I’m learning as I go, and I think there’s something beautiful about that. Isn’t life all about embracing new challenges? And I’m learning quickly that the world of blogging is its own exciting journey.

One of the best parts of this venture is the opportunity to connect. I love hearing from fellow travellers and dreamers. Whether it’s tips on hidden gems to explore, stories from your own voyages, or just a ‘hello’, your input is what will make Adventure Diaries a community, not just a blog.

And so, I invite you to join me. Follow along, comment, share your own experiences. Let’s open the pages of this journey together and see just how much of the map we can colour in. As the old saying that I hold dear goes, ‘I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list’.

To everyone who has ever dreamt of discovering what lies beyond their front door, this is for us. To travel is to live, and I couldn’t be more excited to share my life with you through Adventure Diaries.

Enjoy reading, and don’t hesitate to let me know what you think! I’m thrilled to have you here, adventuring with me from one page to the next. Until our next chapter, remember, ‘To travel is to live, Katie x’.
